There has been some talk in the media about the levels of radiation emitted by the popular Apple Ipad and the consequent need for a protective Ipad radiation cases. Some observers have argued that such cases are unnecessary as the Ipad does not emit high levels of radiation.
We know that all electric devices from microwaves to cellphones emit radiation. However these devices are bound by FCC rules which provide a limit to how much radiation these devices can emit.
Like other devices such as cellphone which emit radio waves-due to internet or radio wave activity, the Ipad emits energy due to its 3G capabilities. However the Ipad reduces this energy by triggering a proximity sensor that is inbuilt. {See the red shaded area in the diagram below}.
Indeed in Apple Company’s filling with FCC they have indicated that there is a proximity sensor in the Ipad. However in order to meet FCC radiation energy emission for wireless devices limits , the Ipad’s proximity sensor is programmed to reduce 3G transmission power when the Ipad is placed very close (10mm)or near ones body. This power reduction lowers the radiation levels a user would experience (The Specific Absorption Rate or SAR). This is especially so with kids and children who spend a lot of time with Ipad placed on their laps.
The Pong Research group has developed an Ipad case with that targets the proximity sensor. Basically the Ipad radiation case has a cutout over the Ipad area that has the proximity sensor which avoids triggering the automatic power reduction by the Ipad.
The genius of this Case is that unlike other cases it does not cover the antenna which triggers the proximity sensor.
The Pong case exposes the antenna and therefore does not reduce the transmission power of the Ipad. However you would think this would be a bad thing-as the 3G tr4amission power would be let loose .But there is a great twist to this cover.

There are also other steps that we can take. We can re-arrange our work space, sleeping and even children’s rooms to limit our exposure to dirty radiation. This means moving electronic devices around and ensuring that the living place is one with the minimum EMF exposure.
